Which side is the hot and which side is the cold?
Hot is on the right, cold is on the left 13%  13%  [ 5 ]

In my house, the cold tap is on the left and the hot tap on the right.

Its more complex. The valves can also turn clockwise or counterclockwise.

I don't believe so. I'm not at all sure that there is a standard. More of a convention. I would imagine that in older houses (the odd century or two), which way round the taps were would be pretty random.
