There is a big difference between hoarding and collecting.

Hoarding is complex and can be ocd related or not.

I am a hoarder and have been dealing with this for some years.

Some might say I am in recovery and I would agree because it is a lengthy journey to being free of the anxiety and unwanted thoughts it can cause.

I have noticed there are different patterns for hoarders and so I would suggest there are types of hoarders with related mental health markers.

I still have clutter which needs to be dealt with and have to keep on top of this disorder every day but I am pleased to say that I can admit I have a problem and this is one of the hardest things to do as a hoarder.

Even now I am thinking about how I can clear some clutter on a table so we can put a christmas tree there. I am readying myself for the pain of moving and binning things. I am also removing obstacles to me doing this.

Not all hoarders are like what you see on the TV. They are usually the extreme end of the scale. If you have met one hoarder you have met just one. This is why I believe it is so difficult to treat. We are so different.
