I once started to post a long meditation on a certain hot button political issue. My actual conclusion would have been somewhat middle of the road- and disarming to both sides- had I completed the arc of thought. But while typing it ..I decided ...what the heck?...and stopped mid way through my train of thought...stopped at the most provocative and inflammatory incomplete middle of the thought...just see what reactions I would get.

So that was a bit trollish of me.

I did get some strong interesting reactions.

In politics, I think lot of people are going to get provoked because different opinions brings out strong feelings. That is why people are always getting banned on forums or social media when they have been involved in politics because of attacks. People even get trollish too in these topics. This is why I avoid politics.

I have also gotten attacked outside of politics because someone got provoked all because they didn't agree with what I said. :? And I love it when someone responds to me disagreeing with what I wrote only to put an insult at the end because they full well know I might not read their comment if they put it at the beginning in the first line.

I have done trollish responses back to these people or insulted them back because they insulted me first. The moment an argument is starting to get heated, I just leave the discussion because I know it will get personal. It doesn't need to be over politics but because someone can't comprehend what I am saying or because they just want to troll because they are clearly ignoring what I have said and have tunnel reading.

"You can read can't you?"
"Why yes I can read but did you even see what this thread is even about so I was responding to the context of the thread so that was why I was asking you or would you rather have me just ASSume?"

And then some people wonder why I am so snarky

There are some know-it-alls here, but I still wouldn't count them as trolls. Also I'm sometimes guilty of correcting other people's spelling mistakes or typos, but that's because writing is my hobby and so I am hypersensitive to typos and spelling mistakes. Sometimes it can help for someone to correct you. A few years ago I used to spell ''decent'' as ''descent'', and nobody ever told me! :) I wish they did!

In Poland, correcting one's spelling or grammar is not seen as offensive, unless followed by insults. Correct language improves communication. I was a bit surprised that in English-speaking internet, people often get angry over it.
WP members, correct my spelling and grammar when it's wrong, I won't be offended.

I've known people on the spectrum who have trolled.

Anyone can troll but that doesn't mean you will be good at it. I see that word get thrown around here too to mean "I don't like what this person writes" or "I don't like this person."

And there are people who shitpost which I also think is a form of trolling. They make up a story and post it to see what responses they get and how people react and there is no agenda behind it and they were not looking for any specific reaction.

My definition of a troll is:

Someone who seems to lack reading comprehension because they ignore what you say and seem to have tunnel reading, they do this to rile you up and see how long you keep going

They post inflammatory comments as anonymous instead of under their real account

They are usually stupid and you can't get through to them with logic and they seem to be singling you out. In truth, they don't believe what they are saying and they are just pretending to be an idiot to rile you up before they feel satisfied enough with your reaction and move on.

They just attack you on social media

They tend to display hypocrisy and have double standards

They are deliberately vague and don't answer your questions when you ask, they are also doing this to rile you up.

They will use your weakness against you and look through your post history and look you up to find ammo against you.

They falsely accuse you of things and then not respond

They will purposely target vulnerable individuals

They are nice to everyone but are selective about who they are mean to and who they target

Everyone has their own definition of a troll.

I was trolling.

Troll, to troll and trolling is a reference to fishing boats in motion with fishing lines in the water that have baited hooks. Trolling for fish, hoping one will take the bait. Hoping to get a bite.

My writing "autistic people lack the capability to troll and are unable to recognize trolling when they see it" is the type of inflammatory thing a person who is trolling would write, intentionally trying to piss off someone and get a reaction from them. The more bites the better. Or a troll could write something absurd to get a reaction. The point is a troll post is made solely for the purpose of getting a reaction. Basically like the kinds of reactions people hope to get from making prank phone calls. Really a troll is pulling a prank.

When I'm serious downvotes hurt.

When I'm trolling only lack of engagement bothers me and it doesn't hurt.

I need to start feeling this way about my pics considering they're controversial.

Why is that? Are they counting the goats or the humans? 8)

The roads are confusing, people won’t come to the door if it’s a stranger, locked gates and tweakers. It pays 15 an hour plus mileage so it’s a good paying job for here. They must be desperate, they were recruiting outside the food pantry.

I didn't realize rural Arkansas folk would be suspicious of strangers. That usually happens in a place with high crime. Census takers in my country wear special bibs and tags so they're easily identified, since certain areas have a lot of crime. Despite this, most people are quite open and hospitable here - just slightly cautious at first in case you have ulterior motives.

I also have done know it all and tend to write long posts. I guess that makes me a troll.

We do have some members here who tend to write long posts and I have seen a couple of them get accused of bad things and I am like "huh" but I don't want to spend all my time reading heir long posts to find the crimes they are accused of.

The Jehovah’s Witness drive around recruiting so better safe than sorry and don’t open the door.

They've been very active around here lately too. Mostly elderly folk in large groups then they split up in twos. I do drops for an estate agency from time to time and see them often.

But... you don't hafta listen to them... they are generally sweet folk but you don't have to "buy" their message.

I'm a troll, but I'm one of those trolls with bushy hair who is ugly and cute at the same time. Never understood why we're supposed to be the terrors of Scandinavia.
