Same. I never really focused on my age much & s#ck at noticing other's ages. I always had few friends & thus never had a bDay party other than with just family. My parents got out of that kinda stuff with their families over 10 years ago. My cousin's families got bigger, they got married & had kids & my parents didn't wanna deal with the hassle of getting gifts for a bunch of people. My parents also kinda realized that I wouldn't have kids so my parents felt like they'd be giving gifts to people who wouldn't really give us anything in return. I know people like my parents should look at it as them wanting to be generous to other family members but my parents would rather be nice in other ways than deal with getting gifts & having to celebrate with them.

It means I survived another year. Considering the oncologist surgeon who did two tongue replacement operations has told me he did not expect me to be here I consider that a really big deal. The gifts and best wishes and happy birthdays while nice and appreciated are secondary.

Mine is September 7. For awhile it was dread as my 20s ticked away with little positive happening in my life. Now I live with my partner whose birthday is a week before mine and I'm just glad I have someone close to me and family I can enjoy the occasion with. It's no longer dread but "I'm still here" kind of thing.
