I just don't get how anyone can translate an opinion on something someone does as an attack on an ethnic group. The Swedish government can arbitrarily incarcerate just about anyone for having an unauthorized opinion.

Once again: having a negative view on another person is not illegal; stating said view as fact, and trying to recruit/convert people to your views/cause is. I'll ask you to read the sentence mentioned in the article you linked me, and then tell me that that is an "objective view", as the arrested men claimed.

I'm very disappointed in you for expressing the view above, it's sad how people can lack the guts to stand up against this clear case of censorship, the political debate in Sweden has been gradually silenced the last 15 or so years, so now you must be very careful to restrict what matters you speak out on if you don't want to face the government's wrath.

Really, you should read the line you wrote again - reconsider your attitude. You're betraying your fellow man in order to get approval in a totalitarian political climate. It's simply disgusting, it's not something that belongs in a society that should be free. If Sweden is fully transformed into a Soviet republic, it'll be thanks to people like you. Better hope the government doesn't get its eyes on you at that time.

This view has nothing to do with me supporting a "totalitarian government" (*snicker*), much less lacking "guts"? Whats the matter? Run out of pseudo-revolutionary things to say, so you decide to insult me instead? Please....

I'm betraying "my fellow man"? What about the homosexuals that were attacked in these pamphlets? Do they not count as fellow men? Should no one take a stand for them, because these jokers invoke one of our most priced laws to come to their defense where it does not apply? Maybe I should just run down to the nearest theater and falsely yell "Fire!", and watch in bemusement as the panic-stricken patrons make for the exits? Should the law of free speech protect me then? Or maybe I will commit perjury, and then invoke my right to say whatever the hell pleases me whenever I want to.

While I agree that homosexuals are not an "ethnic group", this is more a matter of the wording in the law, rather than any reason they should not fall under it. Same with Aspergers. If someone decided to start spreading hate propaganda against people with Aspergers Syndrome, I'd bloody well want them caught and persecuted for defamation if not indeed Hate Speech. It's simply the same deal.

I guess you must have been watching too much SVT - where in the western world do they deny medical treatment to people based on religion, race or sexuality? And fact is, you get much better care with an insurance in the US than with the public health care here in Sweden.

I don't watch much in the ways of television at all, to be honest. But surely someone with your clear view of the world see right through the lies spread by government-owned tv-channels bent on brainwashing you, right between the Finnish educational programs, the sign language-newscast and the weather...

You get better care in the states? Please...The united states may have invested the most money into their health care system, but it is by no means the best. Granted, they have the best EMERGENCY care, but I digress...here is something you should read:http://dll.umaine.edu/ble/U.S.%20HCweb.pdf

and while you're at it: http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-healthcare.htm

...And concerning the deal with discrimination in the health care, I don't remember limiting my statement to "the western world", when I clearly said "countries that really don't have freedom of speech etc." But I'm guessing South Africa, and some of the alleged "democracies" throughout Asia, the Middle east and Africa would make good examples.

Sweden is as expensive as it gets - check the difference in electronics prices between the US and here - expect 40% to 100% higher prices here, compare pricerunner.se with for example newegg.com. And, all the paperwork you have to go through to start up a business here is very problematic for people with AS, many more of us could employ ourselves in meaningful ways if we didn't have this economic system.

...I'm just wondering why you're comparing to the U.S., when the OP obviously wanted a comparison to Britain...besides, why would electronics be any reliable indicator, in the first place?

our government doesn't really concern itself much with copyright and real crime - only with thought crime.

yeah, real crime...like the protection of "intellectual property"...you strike me as one of those people who draw analogues between downloading music and Grand Theft Auto...but let me ask you this, then; when was the last time a carjacker walked up to you and said "Pardon me sir, but could you let your car stand perfectly still for a moment, while I build an exact copy of it? That'd be grand. Thanks"?

The trial didn't concern people at all, it concerned saying homosexuality was destructive, a view. It doesn't matter if you say "I feel" or if you present it as correct, it's still not an attack on anyone.

I stopped reading your post here btw, not interested in wasting time on someone that bases his political stand simply based on what winds blow at the moment and who's the real authority instead of actually supporting the free exchange of ideas.

...And back on topic: concerning Asperger and the likes, I think Sweden might be one of the most accepting/liberal countries. Also, Me and my family are planning a trip to London, and the feeling I'm getting is that compared to here, Britain is effing expensive, at least some things. one pound is roughly equal to 14 or 15 swedish kronor.

Britain is expensive. But Sweden looks moreso by the looks of things.

In adding the word "morally" into the equation, they make the assumption that homosexuality is by choice. By that reasoning, anyone who "chooses" to be homosexual, chooses to be "immoral". That makes it about people.

Actually, I've been quite clear where I stand and why, so your statement that I "bases his political stand simply based on what winds blow at the moment" is quite groundless and rather insulting.

...and what great loss for modern society to loose such great ideals and constructive views such as gay-bashing, Nazism, racism, anti-muslims, xenophobes and all other idiots who claim their views are legitimate and fall under "free speech".

you know what? Fine! I have made my point, and you can't even be bothered to read what I'm saying, much less even begin to grasp it, obviously. Anyone who has a brain can see that you don't. Enjoy driving a cab for the rest of your life.

To the OP: I apologize for all the off-topic posts, but I couldn't let that slide. I hope you do move here, its a great country.

SuperSteve out!

Which is the country that has a waiting list for people to go to prison? They were thinking of doing that here. :!:

I dunno, I hear that Swedish prisons can be quite cushy.

It's Norway, I looked it up. John Reid sent someone there to look at the scheme. Doesn't sound like it would be applicable to us. Even Norway had problems with it.

I actually heard Swedish policing is quite strict. They had years of leniency and decided zero tolerance worked better especially in drug offences and curb crawling. Though this was some years ago, I don't know if it has relaxed since then.

In a number of ways, the swedish and danish societies are very similar; the political "landscapes" are similar (numerous different parties rather than one "left side" and one "right side" party). And just like in Sweden, Denmark has a pretty extensive (compared to especially the US) public social/health care system. Language won't be much of a problem, since everybody in Denmark speaks english from around age 10, and without knowing for sure I guess something similar applies to Sweden.

When it comes to the natural landscapes, there's a big difference between the two countries: Where Sweden is "made from" bedrock and has mountains, Denmark sits on a foundation of chalk and is very flat and without mountains; the highest elevation is a mere 566 feet. Combine this with often blustery and windy weather, and you'll understand why the modern-day wind turbine was invented here...

Here's the homepage of an internet radio host who moved from the UK to Sweden in 2005: He has a "contact form" there, so if you dare use it, he may be good for a bit of do's, don'ts, tips and advice should you choose to move to Sweden: http://bbb.boznet.com/home.php

By the way, if you decide to move, but cannot make a choice between Sweden and Denmark, settle in either Malmö, or in the greater Copenhagen area; the two are connected by a bridge, and many people live in one place and commute to the other for work...
