Background to understanding the question.
There is the imperial measurement system (feet, ounces, pounds, etc.) and the metric system (meters, liters, grams, etc.). I once read that the U.S. officially recognized the metric system back in the 1800s (not kidding), but the U.S. citizens chose to stick keep using imperial because that is what they knew, and the U.S. citizens did not trust some highfalutin educated person's unit of measurement. (Wikipedia Metric System: History)

Terribly earnest question -

What is the metric version of measuring time? Where does it start? Is it impractical to use on hospital registration forms?
