^^ Hi Kazan, wasn't ignoring you, didn't see this. Yeah, calcium chloride. I waited til the sun came out and scattered more, and it eventually got the idea. I was breaking floes off this huge sheet of ice that covered my walkway, drive and patio, off and on all day. Car was encased in it.
Problem is, entrance and all are on the north side of the house, and don't get much sun this time of year. So I finally get the car out, run some errands, and coming back I see that virtually every other home in my neighborhood had perfectly clear walks and drives.
This was not because I'm lazy - we had a 3.75 cm thick ice sheet, all of us. It's because my home casts a shadow exactly where I don't need one, and everyone else has better sun exposure. Every tree in everyone's yard is still encased in ice. But the tarmac got warm enough to clear up, where people get sun.
Just one of those things. I think, though, that I'm going to buy some snow fencing, and some uprights, and enclose the patio and its walkway next fall, for the season. That will hopefully prevent anyone from mistaking that for the main entrance, and slipping there if this happens again (two day ick storm, impossible to shovel in, frozen solid by the time things clear.)
I am so sore... wow.
