My mom is always inviting me to those sort of things. I feel the same though, and don't even care to show up if I'm not drinking. I stay home. I don't want to get back into that lifestyle again. I do drink once in a while, but only when I feel like it, not because I want to be able to go somewhere. Ok, now I sound like I'm preaching, I'll shut up.

Maybe I should go back to drinking. I mean nothing worthwhile and I was even invited over at a barabeque but couldn't because they were all drinking and I was all nervous.
I just seem to have a problem with drinking in moderation...

Yeah, I used to be a real heavy drinker, for about 10 years. For 5 of those, I was drinking almost a whole bottle of whiskey(100 proof) plus 1/2 case of beer, every single day. That's why I've been to jail 6 different times(alcohol related). 
The good part is, my anxiety is under control(sort of) and I don't have the desire, or need, to drink like that anymore. Now, once in a while is good enogh for me.

how can it be worth it if it's just for a few hours a month?
It's a little hard to say unless you've been there...
I'm not saying I'll do it but I'm just sick of having to feel ostracized because of this "little" problem of mine aside from having poor social skills and anxiety....
I don't know how you feel about meds, but there are some that'll provide some relief. Everyone is different though, so it might take a little "trial and error" until you find one(or three, in my case) that work for you.

It's been my experience that most meds don't really "take away" my anxiety, they seem to block it. But like you said...."whatever works".
