Depends where you get them, I'm getting the Desire HD unlocked, but the one in my avatar is on the dreaded O2 :P

Of course they do, you should get the ones from either 3 or T-Mobile, they seem rather good imo.

You can actually unlock your HTC through a site called XDA-Developers, that's what I go on to do all the customizing on my old HTC.

Not the new ones. AFAIK there's not even an official way to unlock the DHD yet, and the older Andorid HTCs need codes which you have to buy, just like with any other phone.

It's best to get a new HTC SIM free just to have a vanilla ROM instead of a network branded one, gives you less crapware and faster official updates, and of course no network lock.
