Thanks for the info. I've tried ginko and magnesium and lots of supplements. I'm sure mine is brain based. My stroke occurred seven years after the tinnitus started, but didn't change it either way. The only time I don't hear mine is when I'm in a hot shower. I'm sure it's still there, but the water nose occludes it. I was advised to try a white noise generator but I don't think I could tolerate it. I don't like additive sounds and I'm very hypersensitive to noise. I suppose I could try, but even the thought of a physical "thing" in my ears is a sensory nightmare.

Solidarity.

I sleep at night with a big box HEPA air filter running in the background which provides soft masking/distraction from the ringing, it enables me to sleep. it also generates negative ions [like when you step outside after a thunderstorm] which makes the air smell fresh and is soporific.

aw much appreciated

well, i am writing about underground digital communities and cultural/ linguistic divisions using Vaporwave (music genre) as a case study. I am comparing japanese, italian and english speaking communities to see how linguistic divisions change the way users relate to the same subject. it's a bit of an insane task seeing I don't even speak Japanese. I spent hours trying to make sense of comments and posts, looking through dictionaries etc.. learning a lot of japanese in the process but it's a headache! i can't afford a translator and it's hard to know what needs to be translated / is important seeing it's all on the internet and I am doing my field notes as I go. With italian there is no problem. But i really wanted to understand the Japanese perspective and I am getting there, just I have 2 weeks and need to write 10,000 words so I am super stressed.

actually, technically 9,000.

I'm sure there is someone out there who is fluent in Japanese who would want to help, if only for the "volunteer" credentials or the quasi-notoriety of assisting in research. Have you reached out to undergrads or even high school students? That sounds like a very interesting study and I wish I could help. Your advisor should be able to recommend someone, I'd hope?

I feel terrible making undergrads work for free ahah I thought about asking a friend but she's probably too busy and getting rejected for a second time today is not going to help me emotionally ahah

I could ask my advisor. she's been off these couple of weeks, she's coming back next week I think. maybe she can hook me up with someone who'd be interested. in moments like these, i really wish i had money to help me with!

ps im so happy you say it's sound interesting. that's already a start :)

This is a doctoral dissertation? Do you have any grant money? Yes, your advisor should definitely assist. How else will she gauge the accuracy of your research?

Just a master degree! no funding, it's a taught programme but my advisor doesn't actually know I am doing this linguistic comparison. That's something I came up with a week ago as I realised there was a huge gap in the literature regarding linguistic segregation and I wanted to move away from English centric narratives.

But I am aiming to do a Phd - or at least do well enough so I have that option if it turns out office jobs are not for me (as I suspect ).

I just read a fascinating paper by Stevie Davies about how Emily Brontë's writing would(not) translate into other languages (if memory serves me she looked at German, Chinese, Japanese and French, among others). The rhythm and meter of Wuthering Heights is lyrical and cannot be replicated in other languages with the same emphasis.

Let me know if you need any editing etc.

I might not understand the content, but I'm always pleased to edit for clarity and emphasis.
Let me know.
