Robot,
1. Joel is very good. I have several of his songs on my play list and it's rare for me to have more then one song of any band artist. 2. There are sometimes non-verbal communications going on here and in similiar threads, subtly in the backround. 3. I don't always listen to the songs, if they don't appeal to my tastes or mood etc, but I do often get ideas from them. For instance if someone posts a song from back in the 40's it gets me thinking about that era music, and other music or memories come to mind. Some things I have forgotten have become unearthed in that way.

Anyway at the moment I am not into a Joel Ballad, but it did give me a taste for one of his fast but cerebral songs.

Oh man, I love Billy Joel, too....my favorite songs of his are River of Dreams, Tell Her About It, And So It Goes, We Didn't Start the Fire (like Toy_Soldier mentioned) and of course, Piano Man. :) I also really liked "Why Should I Worry" (The song he sang for his character in Oliver and Company) when I was a kid. :D

I think he has always tried to really catch something tangible in his music and especially his lyrics. Not just making music, but often telling a story. He reminds me somewhat of Gordon Lightfoot in that respect. I grew up in same area as he did, and not too long after, so it was also very easy to connect with his subjects. Not all the subjects were pleasent to contemplate either, but sank in like a knife deeply, propelled by the honesty. Piano Man and Captain Jack were like that. I also like Summer Highland Falls and Billy the Kid.

P.S. I noticed you have posted some Retro Music & was curious how you came by that preference. Did you have a like a music mentor or find it on your own exploring ?

this is a nice restful song that allows me to relax.
the harmonic inferences allow me to superimpose my own mental lead upon my listening experience.
the video is enthralling as well (to me).
i posted this before (6 months or so ago?), but i listen to a small repertoire of songs, so i am bound to repeat myself. i have to say it is better to listen to the song with your eyes closed, as only your imagination can provide the imagery (that is already personally contained in you) from the music. music and video do not go together in my mind.

i also consider stevie wonder to be a melodic genius. it is a pity that in the early 1980's, all the best musicians suddenly went sterile. i have no interest in stevie wonders music after he wrote that "i just called to say i love you" rubbish. he seemed to completely lose the magic of his genius after about 1983-4, and stuff like "lady in red" is pathetic in comparison to his earlier output.

this is a song i am practicing how to play because it fits with my style and ability (and i very much like to be swept up in it's musical direction).

Whitehouse "Why You Never Became A Dancer"
The band is known for saying provocative things simply for the appeal of irritating others.

no one ever says any thing about what anyone else posts unless they are already familiar with the song.

it is useless to post in an almost 1500 page thread what songs i like because no one could give a single flea's droppings about anything else than what they post.

most of the songs in this threads i consider to be garbage, and likewise, most of what i post is also considered garbage by those who give a cursory glance to my contributions whilst waiting anxiously for a response to their posts.

egoism is sterile and un- nutritious.

I think it's kind of egotistic to assume that that is the only reason people are posting (egotistic in the sense of being certain of that motivation without even asking anyone). I haven't done a lot of commenting in here but I have listened to the vast majority of things other people have posted and I have noted the kinds of things that some people are interested in. You on the other hand have chosen to wade in with a really negative comment that, by implication, includes most people in the thread. What evidence do you have for your assertion? Oh that's right: none. It's not nice to assume negative things about huge swathes of people.

I have often commented on how I like specific choices others made in terms of music. Degrading others based on their tastes in music is rather egotistical in and of itself.
