Deus Ex Machina topic

I read in my local paper that these researchers are looking for the "God particle" (Higgs Boson) in that Hadron collider.

Moses was looking in the wrong place.

At any rate, we are all still here, hale and hearty...until tomorrow.

I find it weird that people would name a particle "God". For all the value, they could name it Frank.

I name you Betsy.

They are only testing the device, the beam is only moving in one direction, clockwise for the first test then, a few hours
later in the anticlockwise direction, the actual test will not occur till sometime next year, when the LHC is at full power.

Ok, as I sit here alive and well let me tell you of the "doom theories" that belong only in one place, the sci fi movie.

The Y2K bug - never happened and wasted a LOT of cash.

2012 Mayan apocalypse prediction - The Mayans were indeed a very clever race, but they worked on what they knew about the stars, theit calender was based on a different system, basicaly their star sign changes in 2012, thats it.

The LHC causing black holes, strangelets and other fictional happenings - Impossible, black holes are formed via MASSIVE stellar implosions in space, not humans with a machine. Even if in the billion trillion chance they did form, they would blip in and out of existance in miliseconds.

When the atom was first split they feared it would cause a ripple effect through any particle connected to it and destroy everything, of course it did not.

Nuclear weapon testing - They thought it might go up into the atmosphere and burn the planet up, it did not.

All the stuff Tesla did, none of that blew up the world.

Humans ARE capable of destroying the planet, via toxic waste, deforestation, polution, poaching, carbon, war etc etc. Worry about all that.

Ooh. Another beer I haven't tried. Have to keep an eye open for that one next time I'm over your way.

Although, methinks there should really be a Black Hole Stout if there isn't already. Right?

A quick Google reveals a selection of "Black Hole" stouts. Maybe if you try hard, you can get to taste one of each before...

I finally found a Stateside store that sells Guinness Extra Stout! With great anticipation, I bought some, took it home, warmed it to its proper 22°C, poured it, and took a sip.

:)

Imagine my shock and horror (well... great disappointment...) when what flooded my palate was not the liquid ambrosia of Irish brew mastery, but what could pass for ordinary American dark lager!

What I did not drink, I used to kill garden slugs. It was not fit for even marinating pork chops.

:(
