Post a random truth (about yourself)
Scottish bagpipes are wonderful but what about...
Uilleann pipes ![]()
(The playing starts around 2:58.)
When I lived in the country there was a young lad who I think was probably on the spectrum who used to wander the town new year's and christmas, late into the evening, playing the pipes. It was lovely.
First, Uilleann pipes, ^^^, I am going to listen to that later because right now the Formula 1 pre-race is on (LIVE).
However, I started looking up information about them.
What brought me to this thread.
My computer desk areas are a messy cluttered disaster, covered with papers and stuff. The keyboards, mice, and monitor have a bit of room. Only the mouse cares about room.
First step, gather all the papers, align them into a nice little stack. It's amazing how much that improves things.
I just need to go through the three stacks and pull out the paper that is to get read, recycled, or shredded.
The race is good. Safety car came out, and all but two cars headed for the pits. Max Verstappen was in second place and the first into the pits. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was further behind so they did not trip over each other for new tires like some of the other teams did. It is a three way battle between Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and Max Verstappen.

I like this article: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12489661/ (Profiles in Nonverbal Learning Disability, Academic Skills, and Psychiatric Diagnoses in Children), especially Figure 1. Nonverbal Learning Disability (NVLD) Louvain Community Detection Profiles and Table 2. Nonverbal Learning Disability Parameters by Profile.
The race is over and it sets up next week's race, the last race of the season. That is where the F1 championship will be settled.
Also, I watched/listened to the Uilleann pipes and the dance. I enjoyed them.
I would write more, but my sons want to continue our game of Civilization 7. I will lose spectacularly. Yesterday, I sent older son that younger son would not like what I was about to do. Created a new settlement on a little island, and then when it game time to expand that harmless island settlement, I did it in such a way that it reached the nearby island younger son was going to settle on. I was right. He declared war on me. LOL I seriously laughed so hard when he did that. Wait, this belongs in the what made you laugh thread.

I am the worst offender when it comes to staying on topic, pcgoblin, but I do not at all mind coming here to laugh!
I just won a Netflix voucher - so veeeery unexpectedly
And I had just asked my mom for one as a gift on the occassion of the upcoming Saint Nicholas Day
Yes, Babybird was indeed right, telling me recently I save a small fortune by winning all that stuff online, lol ![]()
I think that it often describes some autistic profiles: "Nonverbal Learning Disability describes a well-defined profile that includes strengths in verbal abilities contrasted with deficits in visual-spatial abilities. Individuals with NVLD often have trouble with some of the following: organization, attention, executive functioning, nonverbal communication, and motor skills" (from https://nvld.org/non-verbal-learning-disability/) and then it is autism in the first place and nonverbal learning disability in the second place (and not nonverbal learning disability without autism!).
She then asked me a bunch of questions about how I approached snow removal. I tried to be as helpful as I could, although in the back of my mind I am imagining some "Guy's guy" ("Man's man) coming out of his house, pushing me aside, telling her I was wrong, and knew nothing about the proper way of removing snow. Have you ever encountered people like that? "Hi, I'm a stereotypical Man and I am an expert at doing everything a Man should be able to do." People that make you feel useless and inferior.
..... to the point....
So I'm answering her the best I can, specifically how I approach my driveway? On one hand, it is something I give a fair amount of thought to, but here is something many of you can identify with. How do I tell her without going into so much detail that it becomes pointless? So I'm trying to be as concise as possible without becoming too terse to be understood. At some point, I just want to disappear.
Okay, I just did a preview and assuming someone read this, it is too long.
<Entering terse explanation mode>
Meet person.
They seem very nice.
There is a chance a friendship could come from this.
PANIC
What do I do? <rhetorical question>
It does not matter if it is a physical encounter or a online encounter. The panic is all on me. I'm trying to work that out.
By the way, the What do I do? response at the moment is HIDE. lol I shouldn't really bother the forum with this. I'm posting it ONLY because maybe there is someone else out there that has the same issue, and now they know they are not alone. Sadly, just don't reach out to me about it because I will likely want to HIDE. Normally, I would delete a post like this.
It is not as bad as it sounds, but it sort of is exactly how it sounds.
I like to reach out to people, I'm not just very good when they return the call. And that is why I think being a ghost would be suitable. Granted most people are afraid of the idea of ghosts, and I don't want to fright anyone.

pcgoblin I am grateful for what you have written. I think a lot of other people here will relate to it very strongly.
The one time I ever spoke with someone about my own anxieties, he stared at me blankly, said, 'for feck's sake, you're social *enough*', burst into laughter and walked away. It turned out he'd noticed... awkwardness, abrupt departures, periodic reclusiveness, but they weren't a prominent part of his perception of me because he thought my intentions were good.
I think that's probably the way it usually goes
(I had been worried that people in a new community wouldn't know I liked them because I was awkward and inconsistently sociable. But when I *was* engaging people could see I was sincere. So it was all fine. The awkwardness was more perceptible to me than to anyone else. I was told it's everyone's right to close the door and be 'not at home' to visitors, and I took that both metaphorically and literally.)
You are a kind and trustworthy person, pcgoblin, and you know many interesting things, and you tell a great story. That's the bulk of what most people will perceive, I think, because it is a lot.
My feeling is - hide when you want, mate. I know I do. Engage on your own terms. It's all fine.
I think most of us on the spectrum grow up with the experience of having the rug sporadically pulled from beneath our feet as we miss things, misinterpret things, fail to respond to cues or send the right signals... I think the anxiety of that often lingers with us. And it can happen to us as adults and it is not really any less painful

I've been going through my old posts, just in case I'm repeating myself. I know I am, but I'm curious what 2013 me said about things.
I found one thread called What Gender Is Your Brain?
I thought I'll take the test again, but the base site, http://www.blogthings.com/, but the host no longer works.
Another site was list at the end. It is a BBC site, and it opens, but the test requirements are -
and Flash has been dropped because of it's security holes.
So I'll never know if my brain is more male or more female. LOL
This was my old post. It was a Saturday. At 8:42 pm I was home, but there are posts elsewhere from the same day where I suspect I was at work. I used to go into work on the weekend. The office was quiet, and I could play music without headphones.
Your brain leans female
You think with your heart, not your head
Sweet and considerate, you are a giver
But you're tough enough not to let anyone take advantage of you!
8.You tend to notice when someone has poor etiquette
True (but I don't care)
10.When talking with your friends, you're more likely to discuss
What's going on in your lives and people you know. (what's going on in their lives. I tend to go off on tangents that pop into my head while they talk.)

If you ever find a YouTube video of a polka song from the 50s or 60s, please post it. I know what polka music sounds like. My Nana use to watch Lawrence Welk when ever she came to visit.
There is a random truth about me somewhere in those sentences.
