Managed to get an ancient IBM T23 laptop to recognize a hard drive, after days of repeated 'GEOMETICAL ERROR' (sic) messages. Was able to install an operating system (Antix Linux), which just about works in this 17 year old machine. Bought it for £11, so no reason to complain...
