I've seen the odd Perseid, but nothing very remarkable.

I only saw the TV images when they sent that probe up to film it. I thought they'd show really dramatic, accurate pictures of it from close range, but what we got was computerized, multi-coloured bloblike stills - I'm sure it couldn't have looked anything like that.

No it was like silver falling from the sky

This is the sort of thing I meant. They were digital images passed through a spectroscope (or something).
