No, it is mainstream.
Some qualifications are required though, so it is lucky I am there since school screwed up my life royally.

Well they were talking about making school compulsory to 18 very soon, but I don't know whether that was confirmed.

Right but over here unless you fail you get into highschool no matter what your grades are. I don't know if that is part of the qualifications.

School is a series of hoops to jump through. Then at the end they give you a paper that says you jumped through all the hoops. Eventually someone pays you for doing things completely unrelated to those hoops.

Over here you don't even have to go to highschool. You can either take high school online or get your ged at that age.
