Noticed this camera's price has been knocked down recently. Is this any good at all?

I've been to Chester but it was a number of years back. I hope to go back and have another look at it soon.

Laz: Best thing to do when looking at cameras is to take a look at Flickr or the forums at dpreview.com.

I was in Chester two times last year as I know my my around the city as my mum needed directions so it was a perfect excuse to go with her & let her on with day schools for her degree while I did my own thing.

Those are great pictures. You should publish your own book. :)

(This pub was totally real ale-free on my visit so it's essentially false advertising.)

In the United Kingdom, the crown dependencies and the overseas territories (and in many current or former Commonwealth countries as well) it is illegal for drivers to park upon the 'zig zag' lines either side of a pedestrian crossing. This is to ensure pedestrians' view of oncoming traffic is not obscured.

I really like the quality of the photos. I myself have a very casual interest and have my camera handy more often than not, but the quality of photos isn't usually great.

That doesn't seem too bad at all, and especially at that price!

My first stop for reviews is always dpreview.com but this one doesn't appear to be featured.
A couple of on-line reviews I zipped through rated it fairly well, but image quality seems to drop like a brick after 800 ISO - which isn't that fast - so it's just as well there's a built-in flash. Plus, the resolution is also capped in the higher ISO ranges but I seriously doubt the quality would make the top ISO values worth using anyway, so that's no big loss.
A 28-420mm lens should be very useful, and the macro function is particularly good. It's also nice to see the usual shutter modes are available - at that price, I'd expected them to be banished and replaced by "Auto" - the bane of any creativity.
The chromatic aberration on high-contrast edges would drive me nuts and that really ought to be better controlled, but in most types of general use this is unlikely to be obvious.

So yeah; it looks pretty useful overall.
