Aren't there sidewalks? That's how I avoid traffic

Well I'm unclear as to what you do when there is no cycle lane, from a cyclist's point of view
Anyone here in the UK know?

I go on the sidewalk when there isn't a bike lane.

One way to avoid traffic is using the public transportation. It's safer than biking on the dangerous city traffic...

I thought adults in the UK were supposed to cycle on the roads.

I was supposed to take a cycling-on-the-road class at the end of primary school. My mother wouldn't let me go.
