You could try getting the vitamins from wholefoods rather than supplements.
I used to rely a lot on multivitamins, but it's only now I'm eating some real food that my nails and hair have stopped breaking and wimping out on me.
Purely anecdotal of course.
Based on a dodgy understanding of physiology plus personal experience with taking supplements, there seems to be a sort of carousel of micronutrients including, among others, iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper and potassium, where taking one of these lowers the uptake of another. Multivitamins seem to have little effect on me.
In general, some of these micronutrients seem to be more easily absorbed by the body through food. They come prepackaged, so to speak. And then there are tricks such as eating mineral-rich foods such as spinach or kale with citrus for the vitamin c.
End of lecture, just thought to support the idea. It's something I'm thinking about a lot, for the health of my family.
