Yeah, even a mattress will block the air flow in, needs to be on a hard surface..
Even a laptop cooler, a cheapie will do, just plugs in via usb, i use on myself when in bed, so doesnt over heat.Something similar as below link, just have a look around. :)

^^Thanks! Cool, I have never heard of that. Definitely something to consider, especially when the laptop gets older. This place gets more dustier then the former apartment, because I have the bed in the living room.

Also as a precaution , other than a deep virus scan. Download this software, install , run and then when finished delete anything it finds then uninstall :)

Always have a laptop cooling tray.
Mine hasn't actually worked for a year+, but the elevation alone seems to help. You need space underneath the fan for ventilation, that kind of instant shutdown does sound like overheating.

So yes, buy a cooling tray and check the cpu, and stop using it directly on flat surfaces.
Can of compressed air might help clean the fan a bit too, dust is always a factor.

Yes, you are probably right about the over heating thing. One of the times it turned it self of I was watching a rather "hot" movie :lol:
