Well, I've been to his local pub. He lives in Melling (a small village north of Lancaster and just south of the border with Cumbria) these days.

And, no, you're right. He was born in Cheshire. My fault entirely. :( ;)

but you were right that he lived there.

supposedly my family owned a pub in Padiham, but i haven't been able to find anything about that. there was one in Burnley with the right name from that era, but it doesn't help that every twelfth pub in the UK seems to have the same name ("Hole in the Wall"). anyways it could have been just a family story with no truth to it. expats make up all kinds of crap about the old country.

someday i'll visit Padiham i think.

There's not much there. If you want I could visit and take photos for you, so you can see what you're (not) missing. ;)

goodness' sakes don't take a special trip just for me! but if you happen to pass through lol... my grandfather's house was a place on 74 moor lane (terrace is it called? a rowhouse) though probably those places are long gone. i have a postcard from the pub too, i'll have a look and see i there's an address on it. but jeepers don't let me send you all over on some kind of wild goose chase! thanks by the way.

Padiham is fifteen miles away from me. I'll take a look at it when I pass through Read or somewhere similar.

That has a rather nice symbolic look about it; something to do with time and decay, maybe.
Adding a little film grain effect would increase this look (to me, anyway) and hide that it's slightly out of focus. Not that that's a big distraction even as it is - it has a misty, dreamlike feel to it.

I've enjoyed looking at the photo's on this thread. I like taking photo's too, but I'm not particularly good, I'm just a point and shoot person.

I tend to take photo's of the countryside around Suffolk, churches, flowers, animals, and my animals and flowers.

I'd do more, but I don't tend to go into towns often. I will try to take a photo of my local town soon, it's all decked out with bunting for the Royal Wedding.

Here are some photo's I have taken over the last year. They are on two different cameras. I'm just learning to use my newer one, as my old one broke down.

Henbane, they're really nice. Makes me feel quite nostalgic for my childhood!
Love the Blaxhall church sign. *sigh* Rural England, where did you go?
Are those Cowslips and Primroses actually growing wild? It's been years since I found any doing that - but not much of a surprise, as most of Hertfordshire has been torn up and is basically one huge Rape field.
I didn't think countryside like this still existed, and it's nice to see it does.

I took the photos of the cowslips and primroses today, in the churchyard at Benhall, which also had the cherry tree in it. But there are a lot of cowslips and especially primroses growing wild near where I live. I've only been in Suffolk for a few years, and I have no desire to leave it. It's like going back in time to the 50s. I'd take more photos if I could get out and about more easily. Its lovely round here.

Damn, I'm green with envy.
That sounds exactly like my kind of place!

What he said!!

I noticed someone had a picture of a squirrel, and it reminded me I had one floating around that I took from my window into the back yard at full zoom.
