I joined Wrong Planet in October 2013 - when I finally accepted my diagnosis. After the second time I was diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome and I wasn't even seeing the psychiatrists for Asperger's. I didn't even know what Asperger's was.
The first time I was diagnosed (in 2007), I was seeing (sent to) the psychiatrist for depression and (suspected) suicidal tendencies.
The second time, I was in a psychiatric hospital for (alcohol) detox and depression and the psych I was seeing was EXCELLENT. One of the best in Australia. Dr. Shannon Paisley MB BS BSc FRANZCP. He knows me as well as I know myself - but he had NO IDEA of my previous diagnosis of Asperger's 6 years earlier and he came up with the same diagnosis.
That's when I started to believe there must be something in this, so I started to do some REAL research into it and BINGO! That's me.
What now? I'm Autistic!
It affords me some REALLY fantastic skills but it can also be a curse.
