I made a siren reference to a girl I worked with when she was singing. I said something like, "You're like a siren. I'm going to smash my boat on the rocks" She had no idea what I was talking about and looked at me like I was crazy. I felt like an idiot.

Like chrissyrun implied, they can be sexually seductive, but in simile they don't always have to be.
