sorry 4 your feet but i think that walking is a good exercise to stay fit
I don't walk to stay fit; I walk to exercise my dog.
I don't really see it as "keeping fit" although I know some people do. I just love getting out in the countryside.
Walking (assuming one is walking on the flat) is not very challenging in terms of cardiovascular exericise, unless you walk really fast.
I used to "power walk" (I think that's what it's called when you walk really, really fast; fast enough to make yourself pant and sweat) and I loved it. That was what got me into jogging, but I had to stop both, due to my poor arches.
Now I do low-impact aerobics and cycling instead. They don't make my feet hurt, and don't give me shin splints either.
