it is a pity that i have to resort to youtube to find examples of songs i wish to post.
this is no exception.
it would be better to listen to this song without looking at the pictorial semblance that the poster put together. it is distracting.
anyway, it is difficult for me to find songs i identify with. i like many songs, but i identify with very few, and i identified with this one because it is about a person who is not socially integrated, yet intelligent.
it seems to be set in the 1800's, and it seems to be about an old lady who nobody knows much about, and she chooses not to integrate socially with the town folk, so they think she is a witch, and they are too scared to go anywhere near her place which is deep in swampland.
then there is a flood, and rampant disease follows, and people thought the old witch had cast a spell, and they were calling for her to be hanged.
she must have used her knowledge (gained through private research(not witchcraft)) to have concocted a "potion" that would remedy their ailments, and she left it in a pot in the middle of town when everyone was asleep.
the superstitious people who were calling for her to be hanged, were superstitious enough to also make them sample the contents of the pot (in blind hope that if it was made by a witch, it may work (desperation and superstition combined)), and to their relief, it saved them.
the old witch "hadde" (pronounced "haddie") thought her potion would stop them looking for her to hang her for the pestilence they believed she was responsible for.
it stopped them wanting to kill her, but it made them want to use her, and greed is more dangerous in some ways than fear.
she must have thought about it and she relocated before she could be found, and she left a chilling warning that would have been frightening to people of those times who were prone to superstition.
oh well here it is and whatever. it is better absorbed with eyes shut (assuming you have a good imagination (if not, then look at the clip while you listen to it))
