The 3 jobs I had involved me doing custodial stuff like mopping, sweeping, & I've done a little vacuuming at the jobs & at home as well. Vacuuming usually takes longer than mopping, especially if your using one of the older style vacuums where you use a rod that is attached to a canister by a hose that you pull behind you. The canister type are usually more powerful but having to pull it behind you can be cumbersome. The regular uprite kind are a lot more common nowadays. The uprite kind are usually easier to use & they tend to be made better & are more powerful nowadays than they were when they 1st came out. One reason why vacuuming takes longer than mopping is because of the cord that you need plugged in. It helps to know where the electrical outlets are & to have them easily accessible. It is also good to check to see if you need to change the vacuum cleaner bag before you get started or when you finish vacuuming. There's been more than a few times when I noticed the vacuum was not picking up stuff well because the bag was full or mostly full & there was barely any suction. Different types of flooring can have different methods for cleaning. Carpet requires you to vacuum since you cant mop it of corse. You cant really sweep carpet either. Lots of other common types of flooring can be mopped. Mopping is better than vacuuming or sweeping for getting up mud & dried on stuff but mopping does not work well for for getting up pieces of trash or pet hair. Vacuuming generally does a better job than sweeping especially if you have pets. There is not much benefit to sweeping before vacuuming unless there is a bit of bigger stuff on the floor & there is really no benefit to sweeping after you vacuum. If the floor is kinda dirty, I would chose to vacuum before mopping. It is your discretion to decide what to do & when to do it unless you are doing that for someone else. It also helps to figure out a pattern especially for bigger jobs. Randomly jumping around can be confusing & frustrating for me & moving stuff back & forth like the mop bucket & where I'm plugging in the vacuum can eat a bit of time.

I cant really think of any general tips for being on your own. I know I would have major problems living by myself & I never have. I'm barely handling the responsibility of living with my girlfriend. I wish you luck KT.

Found out the union at work offers free language learning courses. I want to see if they have a class for modern standard arabic even tho I already speak fluent spoken syrian arabic. Modern standard arabic is used on official documents and some television programs. Watching news is cool but thankfully bab al hara is syrian lol

Yay! What is a semester? Sounds like a sleep on a hot day! Finals are exams I assume?

From 2009 until 2015, each time I played Cockney Rebel and posted about England the entire day, I'd see objects in my dreams that were unwanted back in those days. Those objects were German. That made me play Cockney Rebel even more. By playing Cockney Rebel, I mean acting like a snotty young Mod and Peter Newkirk all rolled up in one. In a way, I was a snotty young Mod. I had the mindset of a 21 year old and I was around 35.

It went okay. I only spoke with two people during my open video chat hour to discuss the poster, but they were both pleasant to speak with.

From October 2019-2020, I did a series of deformation experiments on synthetic glacier ice (basically twisted some ice under high pressure in an enclosed chamber, very expensive machine). The ice was at the melting temperature to probe the 'viscosity' (creep) of ice when it contains meltwater, something that is poorly understood. Our data shows new behavior not observed before for ice containing meltwater because we tested higher concentrations than the one other study to do so back in the 70's. Has the potential to change the way people treat the behavior of glacial ice at its melting temperature in models that goes into predicting things like sea level rise.



Must not be a fun job. Trying to get myself into a groundwater job soon, I'm technically unemployed now. (there aren't any jobs in Glaciology for someone with a Masters degree )
