All this thread does is promote homophobia by giving people a place to express their homophobic and evil views when there shouldn't be a place for that at all. People need to respect others and their differences. Do you think people should hate and call you names because you were born with Aspergers? No and gay people don't need that either.

Instead of openly stating that there is an issue in society, lets ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist and censor anything we find offensive.

THIS THREAD ISN'T ABOUT SOLVING THE ISSUE! It is a thread for people to express their illogical hatred against people who have done NOTHING to them!

I never said it was about solving anything. It is ignorant to censor something because you find it offensive and it is audacious to call another viewpoint different from yours evil.

You know the funny thing about that? Nobody is bashing homosexuality in any way shape or form. Look around, quit being a dumbass and pointing your finger pretending you are righteous. If you really want to start a war with homo haters start it in religion where a lot of the discussion is "expressing illogical hatred"

It is ignorant to stop people from verbally attacking people for no reason? These "PEOPLE" hate these innocent and usually nice people for no reason other than the fact that a book that supports child abuse and slavery tells them these people are an abomination! THAT IS EVIL!

I'll ignore your last comment to avoid a religious discussion.

I am not saying that these people who do not like homosexuals are right or wrong. I am saying that censorship is wrong.

This thread went downhill fast!

I think as a member of the LGBT community I need to say something.

I do not like it when people say 'that's gay', but I am staunchly against censorship. You can't stick your head in the sand and pretend sh*t you don't like doesn't happen. Nor should you be required to agree with everything you defend.

This thread was in no way offensive.

This topic confuses me.

I often hear that the word gay is derogatory. Yet the homosexual community uses it to refer to themselves. For instance, its the "G" in LGBT and my sister refers to herself as gay. So is it considered derogatory or not? or is it like the "N" word in rap music, where you can only use it if your part of the group?

Not trying to be obnoxious. Just trying to understand.

I think referring to something as gay as a substitute for a word that is negative is offensive, not the actual word gay.

If you use the word "gay" meaning males who are attracted to other males then thats fine. If you misuse it and say "this is gay" then you are using the word to mean stupid implying that gay people are stupid. What else could it mean? An object being attracted to another object of the same gender?

jc6chan I'm going to add my $1 worth in the jar...

Why did homosexuals get labeled as gay in the first place?

I speculate that a long time ago...

a miserable heterosexual, who was having relationship troubles, noticed how happy a homosexual couple looked while they walked down the street hand in hand.

Being so unhappy with his/her life, this stirred feelings of envy in the heterosexual which, in turn, angered him/her.

As the happy couple walked past, the heterosexual couldn't resist the urge to make a snide remark at their apparent bliss and out came the words..."pfft!! Do you have walk about looking so darned gay while the rest of us only have a balnket to keep us warm at night!! !"

At that, the homosexual couple looked at each other and burst into fits of uncontrollable laughter.

This angered the heterosexual further, which drove him to chant, bitterly, over and over in their wake..."Look at the gay couple! Oh just see how gay they can be!!"

...and the rest...as they say...is history...or herstory if you please.

My story?...I work in a high school. If I had a dollar for every time I hear some one calling some thing gay...I know I'd be rich.

I ignore the remark mostly, and if I'm in a situation where it can't be ignored, I remind students of the real meaning of the word gay by saying something such as... "Yes..it cheers me up too :)"

What usually happens next is that the student in question finds another word to describe how they feel because they think I've genuinely misunderstood them.

I also must say that I understand what Ferdinand & Pistonhead are saying.

I'm not going to chastise myself every time I say a word that might offend some group. People will always find new things to get offended over. I don't hate homosexuals, but I do hate the expectation that I be politically correct all the time.

*dips hand in jar and takes a dollar*

Incidently doesn't anyone think it should be GBLT instead of LGBT?

No, lol. It used to be "GLBT" and that's sometimes still used also, but not "GBLT"... sounds like a sandwich. I think the L being first is supposed to be a sort of feminist thing, because when most people think of homosexuality they think of gay guys first.. So i think putting the L first is a way of showing that lesbians matter too, or something like that. ANYWAY... Isn't the big-gay-initialism up to "LGBTQIA" now, or something similar(i've heard a few variations)?

You can censor it yourself by not looking at the post. I don't find it offensive because I myself am not homo/gay/lesbian or any other word that has to do with liking the opposite sex. But If you are and you find it offensive best you do is not look at it.

How about you try and be respectful to innocent people. What has a gay person done to you than to mock them by calling them stupid?
