It appears what I was talking about was Nigirizushi. I've never had sashimi, nor does it look like I've ever seen it in a restaurant that I've been to. Seems a bit strange because sashimi doesn't seem too exotic. I wonder why I've not seen it

Nigirizushi is just "standard" sushi - a small piece of fish, other seafood or egg (don't know how egg gets in there) on a small block of rice. It's my experience that most American restaurants which offer sushi also offer sashimi. Perhaps you simply never noticed it on a menu before? Or haven't been to many sushi restaurants? Although, as mentioned by someone else, sashimi has to be very fresh to be good, so if you go to a lower-quality restaurant, they might not offer it.
aspi-rant: The fish in sushi is not normally seasoned, unless it is a sushi roll, in which case it may or may not be.

I used to love it when I was a little kid, but I developed an allergy to fish so I can't eat it without vomiting

That's so sad.

I think I might lose my will to live if I became allergic to seafood.
