That her Capital was once the City of the Routemaster, and I sound like I'm from that City. :)

Kit-Kats! as well as...

afternoon tea, bangers and mash, the Sex Pistols, Cricket, (the game, NOT the bug) the way little old ladies on the buses call you things like "luv" and "duck" and stuff like that. Oh, and Mary Poppins and Peter Pan. And those big umbrellas that double as lethal weapons because of the heavy duty handle and pokey bit at the end. And London Fog raincoats with all the big pockets and the hooks and loops to dangle your kit off of, with tartan linings....

Arggghhh! Those are 30 years gone, along with villains who said
"It's a fair cop, you got me bang to rights, guv'nor, and no mistake."

The fog, along with Dick Van Dyke's English accent, and certain other English "classics" only reside, for better or worse, in a Hollywood mythic England.

The Golden Routemaster in the Sky, that's shined-up for when I come back Home, when I die. And a Silver Hackney Carriage that comes along with it, that looks like it was built in the 1960s.

Irony, ambiguity and self-depreciating wit.

The largely unrecognised skill of understatement, devastatingly funny but always delivered straight-faced.

Wonderful, wonderful beers.

The sense of history that comes from centuries of habitation changing and adding to the landscape - you can feel the weight of history upon the land. Houses built from local stone, country lanes that have sunk into the earth through centuries of use. Dry stone walls, mature cottage gardens and (often pointless) traditions that date back hundreds of years and are still maintained. Sadly we are being 'globalised' very quickly now, though, and I'm not sure whether today's changes will blend into the English landscape so well

Swearing (though this is more of a UK thing as the Celts are equally brilliant in this sphere). It's an art form over here, it really is.

Cream Teas.

The huge variety of different cheeses, most of which are gorgeous and best obtained from the regions where they are made. Much like the beers!

In fact, there's so much variety in everything. The place changes enormously from one mile to the next, and you're never quite sure what you'll discover by taking a back road somewhere. Even the weather changes every 5 minutes and this too is a good thing, as there's always the chance that some sunshine will creep up on you and enhance the day when you're least expecting it. Sunshine is valued here, and we know how to make the most of it, whereas I'd imagine it becomes rather pointless and boring somewhere like California because there's nothing to compare it to.

There are a lot of things about England which are disappointing, but the more I think about it the more good things there are as well. Thanks for starting this thread, it has temporarily changed my attitude!

I love England because its the home of Kate Bush best singer and most beautiful woman to ever grace the planet. England also gave us Harry Potter. I like the British people I've met; I like their accents. I like the pretty English countryside, the mysterious places, legends and haunted England especially the white horses on the hill. I like the British tv shows that I have seen, especially the comedies and sci fi. I'm suppose to have some Saxon and Welch blood so I love England also because I may have kinfolk still there. Oh and their flags really cool looking too. 8)

Unique personality is not a sin in England. That's what they tell me - gotta get there some day. Also that royalty thing is fascinating, not much use in the day-to-day rush of things. Is it true it's impossible to live in England without going bankrupt? Anybody wanna recommend a nice little Agatha Christie village within walking distance of transportation? Is it easier to be an aspie in England?
