If on the high seas a naval vessel of His Majesty's Royal Navy, the HMS Prince of Wales. One of my relatives served as a marine on board her and survived the sinking so I probably could be my own great grandfather or something, without wishing to create a paradox of course.

If in space, a technical officer on board a cruiser or a dreadnought. Some poor technician has to keep all those holographic terminals running so some lonely ensign can play Minesweeper, as well as keeping the Artificial Intelligence from singing Daisy Bell.

most lakes dont have rip tides that swoosh you out in the deep sea...scarystuff my whole family and I almost died from a rip tide,
however lake superior has rip tides too and has drowned ships like crazy from wild storms that come out of nowhere with 40 ft waves.
Native americans from that region say that the lake has to eat.
