Good forum April Fool's jokes?

Have someone pretend they are a moderator and have others get involved with the joke. The members start complaining about and calling out the new mod on their bogus warnings he or she had given them and also say they keep editing their posts and it's confusing members.

Unfortunately an April Fool on another forum I visit caused me to become quite traumatised for a few hours. It was on the love-shyness forum.

I read a thread (the day after April Fool's) to find out it was about ME and it was of enough interest to get 229 replies in just over 36 hours. It started with someone proclaiming me as the most underrated, intelligent and entertaining poster ever on the forum... because of such a claim I knew there was some sort of April Fool straight away. But it was followed by dozens of insults, jibes, etc. about me and many of the forum members ganging up on me. I felt as if the world was really falling apart. I was very shaken.

Indeed, I could understand perfectly well why I would be singled out due to my posting history, and a major faux pas I once made on the forum, and previous life experience of whole groups turning or ganging up on me because I was different from them. Plus, the love-shyness forum is not for the faint hearted. A thick skin is an absolute prerequisite for the forum, whereas my skin is just not thick enough for it. As a result I had in fact already stopped posting there, because the pace of the forum was too much for me. I still visit every day as I'm extremely interested in the subject, but only ever to lurk.

But when the real April Fool joke was revealed, it turned out that some programming language coding had been used by the people involved in the prank, to make it appear to everyone that their own name was being used. It was made to appear to every user that they were being ganged up on. So once I knew what was going on, it was a mighty relief. I breezed happily into the next day with suddenly a little more faith in humanity than previously.

The very effect the prank had on me shows how excellent an April Fool it was. Best I've ever seen anywhere.
