Is it wiser to stay in the United States or move abroad?

It's bad in a 1st World way. I mean it's just really weird and the economy is upside down.

Also, it's kind of corporatism which is a weird mixed bag.

Finally, the way we keep stepping in the middle of every world conflict is starting to freak me out. We have so many weapons it makes it easy to deploy and casually blunder into disputes in foreign culture we don't understand. I keep thinking America is going to go to far eventually. In a way I wonder if that is already in progress being mired in Afghanistan. What a mess.

I guess what I'm interested in is a country that is fundamentally more stable. Canada seems to at least be more stable. Even if some areas are in a recession still.

For now I'm finishing college and where my skills are in demand when I finish. Going for Cyber Security.

Ignoring the things you don't like helps. Just remember to vote, and if something really bothers you, write your representative. I believe the politically sane still outnumber the insane in this country. Perhaps not by a lot.

If the economy really takes a s**t, move then. For now, you're still doing better economically being in the US in most professions or businesses, sometimes by orders of magnitude.

I have a Canadian permanent resident visa, but I choose not to use it for now.

not exactly, during the last vancouver winter olympics, thousands of americans were stopped from entering the country due to things as minor as traffic tickets. it made the local newscasts, with lots of irate americans complaining.

I've had 50+ traffic tickets, and have crossed the border into Canada 100+ times at multiple POEs, and have never had an issue. They searched my car once. A few times, they didn't even bother looking at my passport, they just waved for me to keep driving.

They were probably complaining about DUIs, which actually are serious.

The Americans are a much bigger pain in the ass coming back. They are far more thorough and I get sent to secondary about 20% of the time. If I have an unresolved criminal case, I get sent to secondary 100% of the time, even though I'm a US citizen. If I'm travelling with a citizen of a shitlisted country like Malaysia, I get sent to secondary 100% of the time. The Canadians don't seem to know about criminal cases unless they're resolved and you've been convicted. I crossed the border once on my way up with a guy who didn't tell me he had a criminal conviction and it was a long night. They ultimately let us in.

I am also leaving the United States ASAP.

I feel like I should point out that the Netherlands is one of the easiest countries for Americans to emigrate to, because their business visa only requires a minimum investment of about US$6,000:

It's wiser to stay in Sweden. I wouldn't consider move abroad.
