I can think of a number of different places for a variety of reasons. Given my choice, I'd have trouble making up my mind.
Here are a few choices (ignoring issues like jobs):
1) Bryan/College Station, Texas -- good libraries at Texas A&M and could occupy myself going to various sports events, particularly baseball, softball, soccer, and volleyball.
2) Santa Fe, New Mexico -- I like the style of adobe houses there. Rather expensive, though.
3) Sitka, Alaska -- Not a whole lot of people spread out over an area (including water) larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined. Good fishing.
I haven't been to the following, but from what I have read about them, I think I would like them:
4) Ireland, somewhere in the country preferably near the water. Would probably spend too much time in the pubs, though.
5) Isle of Man -- Have wanted to go there ever since I was in high school and read about the TT. I suspect I would get tired of it, though.
6) Alderney -- The second smallest channel Island.
Other:
7) San Miguel de Allende, Mexico - serious concerns about the war between the drug cartels and the Mexico and the clear branching out the drug cartel into other illegal activities such as extortion and even more kidnapping.
