Yeah, I don't get it. lol Health Care is one of those things I'll never take for granted.
When I was 15 a friend of mine moved to the Houston area so I went there for 3 weeks the following summer to visit them. Luckily my mom bought me traveler's insurance because after swimming in their pool every night for a week I ended up with the worst ear infection in the history of ear infections. It was so swollen that I couldn't hear out of it and I was in so much pain that I couldn't sleep. So, I ended up having to use my insurance to go to the ER to get some antibiotics. Months later we ended up getting paper work in the mail just for our own records and I remember seeing the charges for the visit.
I couldn't even tell you how much it costs when I go see my family doctor here.

in large swaths [south/Midwest] of America, if you're the wrong color or class, you are lucky to not be in jail or even to be allowed to live! we still had de facto slavery until shortly before WWII! we now have bona fide privately run debtor's prisons! we have a Ferguson city police force calling black citizens "f**king animals!" the only thing preventing a total reverse robin hood is the democratic party still in [some] power at the federal level at least.

We have a far right government here at the moment, and we've had them for FAR too long in my opinion. lol Luckily we have a federal election coming in 2015, so here's hoping it will be the last we see of them. When I'm complaining about Canada nowadays it's usually because of something the government is doing.

you are so fortunate to belong to a commonwealth nation and not America.

If only belonging to the commonwealth made it easier to immigrate! lol
I could honestly never live in the U.S. I go there often because I'm so close (and gas is cheaper, even with the exchange lol), but even though everything looks relatively similar there, it's always felt sort of like another planet to me. lol You KNOW you're not in Canada when you're there.
(edit: which isn't to say I have a problem with the people or anything like that, everyone is still nice and such)

it is at least [if not harder] as hard for any American of average means who has no blood relations in Canada, to live in Canada or even visit if there is so much as a traffic ticket on his or her record, this news came out when thousands of americans were denied entry during the last winter Olympics.
That actually goes both ways. The U.S. denies entry to those with criminal records on this side as well, even sometimes when they've received a formal pardon.

I bet Canada doesn't let you in with such (basing this on Oz and the US).
I'm not entirely sure about Canada in that regard, but I know when I looked into immigrating to the UK once, if you weren't planning to work while living there, you have to prove that you can financially support yourself before they'd even consider letting you in. Our current government has made some pretty drastic changes to our immigration laws over the last few years so I'm not entirely sure where we stand on that sort of stuff now.

Lots. We have Edmonton, Racist and bigoted.
One prairie towns cops have been accused of giving trouble drunk natives the "Starlight Tour" out to the middle of nowhere in the dead of winter with no coats or shoes. They find them in the spring sometimes. -->LINK To the Wiki LINK<--
Winter here really is as bad as I make it out to be. Drunk people freeze to death all the time in the city, steps from their own warm homes.
*EDIT*
What used to be a very racist place, The Tar Pit: Ft McMurray... Ft McMoney.. Also Known As: SITE ("I work at Site"), has been totally and completely inundated with Foreign Temporary Workers..... -->LINK<-- LOL.
Karma.
(Go to youtube and search for "I work at site" or "fort mcmurray steve", the cartoons are no joke)

You have no idea how much American influence we have here. Culturally, we're like the bastard child of the US and Britain, with the exception of Quebec which is really more like parts of Europe. I mean, we do have a good amount of unique, "Canadian" identity, but for the most part we're essentially America Jr.
