$80!! ! Can't you get perfectly serviceable and respectable jeans for like a quarter of that price?? I mean, ridiculous! It is not as if jeans are that major of a luxury item! The people primarily concerned with the kind of jeans you have are idiots!

Agreed, clothing is the only thing I really don't focus on.

I have average clothing and a good suit for special occasions and that's all.

I could never eat ramen from those little styrofoam cups honestly. Besides, if I want authentic Asian food I'll go to a nice restaurant.

Never?? It is not that bad. It has a high sodium content which is a concern for the health conscious. I am not sure if the cups are 10 cents, I think that they are 25 cents and that the 10 cent ones are the packages. Still, I do enjoy them. Perhaps certain wealthy people might have higher standards but I don't mind.

They spend five dollars to make a pair of damn pants and charge 100 effing dollars. There's no bigger bunch of thieves then the fashion "industry".

I know you were, but the idea of paying that much for jeans though! I never go to the mall to shop. The prices are ludicrous! I mean, the gains from such a purchase are very minor but what one could get from simply stashing that money away can be rather large. I mean, if one saves up, and gets a mutual fund or something of that nature then one will not have to worry much about retirement in the future. I think that the market averages 10%, I am not sure but that is what a teacher told me once and it is not implausible, assuming that such is true, if we take the savings from buying cheap jeans and hold it there for 20-30 years then it gets much much larger if we assume an exponential function. I believe the proper equation ends up being e^(rt) with the final amount being in our case about 7 to 20 times the original value. It will of course be less than that given inflation and the fact that we used an approximation but if one looks, that amount is significant.

Let us just look at that in numbers. You buy 20 dollar jeans instead of 80. You put that 60 additional dollars into some form of mutual fund or whatever else have you(we are assuming that you have one in this case). The rate of interest for this is 7% adjusted for inflation. That means that in 20 years you will have 243 dollars, and in 30 years you will have 490 dollars! Just think if you applied this frugality to everything! You could literally be a millionaire based upon cutting down your expenses by a few thousand dollars a year, not only that but if you get a good job with a 401(k) as some young professionals do and your employer puts money into it based upon how much money you do, you could get even higher gains for your savings! Not only that but if you study your investing better you could get even HIGHER gains!!

meh im not really an expert on ecomomics, but i'm pretty shure it has to do with trade policys, and maybe a little bit of companies greedy behavior. thats why they make everything in china its so cheep over there but once it comes here the price increases by 100000000000000000. lol

There are no bigger stooges than the people who choose to buy that crap. I do not consider them thieves considering it is a freely chosen trade, but I do not understand the people who buy that stuff.

Definitely, I do not see how we as consumers stomach it given that we have much much better options than buying that crap. They do get to mark up their products given it is a monopolistic competition type of market though, and many people do consider that name brand worth the extra 80 bucks.

I disagree, I think it is the companies and the market structures, otherwise there would not be the really cheap non-fashion jeans. The entire reason why these companies do this is because consumers think it is "quality" and pay for it. If they did not choose that then the prices would not be that high. It is about profit maximization, but I do not see anything wrong with putting premium price on stupidity.

Aye, if your stupid enough to buy 100 dollar jeans because of a name then you deserve to lose the money.

When they open the bank the Wal-Mart will be mere steps away from it's own PMC. (Joking)
