Amelie - Amelie

Daisies

Alien - Of course Ripley

The Graduate - Mrs. Robinson, though she isn't a very altogether lovable character

Annie Hall - Annie Hall

Kill Bill - The bride, a vigilante

Erin Brockovich - Erin Brockovich

Mrs Robinson is an interesting choice, had not really thought about her like that. Its funny to think she was slightly less than 6 years older than Dustin Hoffman in that film.

I know it's neither film nor animation, but the webcomic Girl Genius deserves an honorary mention for its large gallery of awesome female characters.

The females of Avatar; the Last Airbender are pretty strong and well-rounded. Also, Grey DeLisle's voice is...delectable.

Pippi Longstocking. Well, I haven't seen any of the movies and I once read they were terrible, but I have the read the books, and she *is* very possibly the physically strongest girl in the world. She is also one of the bravest and maybe even the kindest. Like in one chapter when she went shopping in town she bought candy and toys with her gold for all the kids who couldn't afford it themselves, and another when her two best friends were sick with the measles she entertained them by putting on shows and delivering treats through their sickroom window since she couldn't go inside where they were contagious.

Also, she's ginger! Except for Pippi, Anne of Green Gables (another strong female character) and the Weasley family there aren't many positive read-haired characters.
