Latin - Because consciously conjugating verbs is torture
Italian - Because that's my cultural background
Japanese - Because I wish it was my cultural background
Esperanto - Because it makes sense
Chinese - Just because it's fun to speak aloud
And then, so I could surprise my neighbors by speaking to them in their native languages:
Russian
Cuban Spanish
Hindi
And for practical use:
Morse code
Norwegian (If I ever moved to another country, this would probably be it.)

I thought Esperanto was an attempt at a universal language that failed miserably.

The concept makes sense, anyway. It was mostly a failure in North America (where almost everyone already speaks the same language), but plenty of Asian and African countries continue to cultivate its growth. China even uses it for their short-wave propaganda channels and some ham radio operators also learn it to allow for easy communication with one another. It's not yet common, but it's growing, and I think the idea has some merit.

German-my first language and maternal heritage
Italian-my paternal heritage. I would love to go to Italy.
Spanish-to brush up
Japanese-I want to go to Japan in 2020 for the Olympic Games
Russian-Although Denis Istomin speaks excellent English, I'd like to say a few words to him in his own language if I ever meet him
Ukrainian
Serbian-I have a special interest in Serbia currently
Greek-I have had an interest in Greece and its history since I was in the seventh grade, from antiquity to the current financial crisis
Amharic-I have had an interest in Ethiopia, possibly related to my interest in the long distance runners from that country
Catalan

1. Mandarin - Large economic force, interesting history, cool characters
2. French - Speaking with grandparents, related to other Romance languages, spoken by many
3. German - Related to Germanic languages, large economy
4. Portuguese - Brazil and closely related to Spanish
5. Japanese - Just to see what some weebs discuss, plus to make others envious
6. Russian - Large economy, gateway to Slavic langs, I know a speaker already
7. Swahili - Interesting part of Africa, Bantu languages are great
8. Arabic - Widely spoken, distinct and fascinating culture, religious significance to many
9. Latin - To talk with Latin teacher, gateway to Romance languages
10. Hindi - For India, interesting part of IE languages

1. Russian - I’ve become interested in certain topics where Russian searches produce better results
2. German - Best sounding language, in my opinion, also pretty useful in Europe
3. Spanish - I guess I have intermediate knowledge, but it would be useful to be fluent
4. Cantonese - To communicate better with some family friends.
6. Mandarin - I’m a native speaker, but reading is tedious
7. Latin
8. Georgian
9. Arabic (Egyptian)
10. Swahili
