That reminds me, I heard a cool quote in the movie Kite Runner: "Children are not like colouring books - you don't get to fill them with your favourite colours."
Should be printed on a little card and handed out to all parents of new babies before they leave the hospital.
What I have learned:
Steer well clear of anyone who tries to make you distrust your deepest instincts.
If someone badmouths other people to you, they will also badmouth you to other people.
If someone's behavior is hurting you and is genuinely intolerable, and you let them know that, and they carry on doing it regardless...walk away. It's not worth your trying any harder to change them - because they won't - and it's not worth your sticking around to carry on getting hurt.
No matter how weird you think you are, there's always somebody weirder.
"Families....They rock
and they suck." (Neil Gaiman.)
There are any number of ways to get high without ever touching drugs.
Like the airlines say, put on your own oxygen mask first before you attend to the kids. (In other words, if you look after your own welfare you will be that much better able to look after the welfare of your significant others.)
You can get away with doing almost anything in the street if you tell passers-by "It's OK...I'm an artist."
Music can genuinely change your life.
