How well have you done so far in terms of social scenarios?

I mostly get by just by being friendly and kind.

I avoid social scenarios these days. But I used to get forced into them, and it was just miserable, trying to smile and pretend to be normal, without understanding why I failed so badly at it.

What's the worst injury you've had?

Well, a traumatic brain injury roughly 15 year ago, which rarely do I ever mention for, I'm constantly made aware of the repercussions of such.


Is it good or bad in terms of community reaction to autistic people where you live?

Good. I live in a pretty progressive city. They have the Division of Vocational Rehab, ARC, DDA, the Autism Clinic at Univ of Washington, and other places to help those with developmental disabilities. If fact, there are so many autistic people here that the one place which does diagnoses, UW, is booked solid for one year.

Have you ever come across discrimination for being autistic or short or fat or skinny or a different race or anything?

Thankfully, I haven't, though I have had dubious situations before.

I don't know if you would call it discrimination though, I've been bullied a great deal of my life for not only being autistic in terms of odd/unusual behavior patterns but, also having a unorthodox physical form which lead many to think I was either homosexual or female like.



Do you feel comfortable socializing within your own community/neighborhood?

Nah, not really. I feel like an outsider and a trespasser. I've just never fit in unless I was hanging out with the homeless, derelicts, addicts, etc.

No... I used to go for walks around the neighborhood but this weird guy kept hitting on me. I have a feeling he might be autistic too, but I'm asexual and it made me feel really uncomfortable.

What do you see as a stumbling block towards better understanding of the entire autistic spectrum?

People's tendency to dislike and exclude people who are different from them.

WEll, I think one barrier in my view is the notion that asd's are either seen as a disease or that autistic persons tend to have limited intellectual abilities as it pertains to flexibility of one's mind..


What is the one elusive questions yet to be answered by mankind?

The question of what happens after death.
