it is! and the soundtrack is amazing as a whole :]
Whilst I think the soundtrack is good, I'm not into the whole angry rap scene anymore (my high school years were the Wu-Tang ones), but that's just a personal taste thingy; which is somewhat hypocritical of me since I like the movie so much.
Anyway, I'll go all one-sided and all, and I'll point out some bits of the movie I found to be quite awesome:
- the scene at the start where Ghost Dog is walking down the street on the way to jacking the car; no one on the street sees him as his steps are timed perfectly, even though he's in plain sight and casually strolling down the sidewalk (the whole "Ghost" thingy)
- applying the Hagakure and its associated philosophy and sociology to the modern world through an outcast
- the gangster Louie, Dog's master, is my favourite character, and his constant situation of being between the rock and a hard place; he's also "honorable" and follows an outdated code by today's society (gunning down the racist slime, for example)
- the gangsters, as a whole, they're goddamn hilarious
- Dog's run in with the poachers, and its question of morality; who is worth more, the poachers, the bear or Dog? When you look at it from the perspective of rarity...
- Dog's French friend and their conversations
Anyway, it's cool to see someone else appreciating this fine underground classic.
