Lancashire...well most of the countryside and small towns of North West England are quite pretty.

In Lord of the rings when the hobbits reffer to their home as "The shire" they mean Lancashire as thats what Tolkien based the landscape from. I've been to the home of Fridio a small town near Stockport called Chapel-en-le-frith it's about the only thing exciting about the place, although it does have a nice italian restaurant and isn't too far away from Castleton and the blue john cavern. And that tourist trap that is the devil's arse (not its real name its a gimmick)

I won't ruin it... All I'll say is that it's a natural unedited photo, taken at night. ;) (maybe it's the Easter Bunny!)

is it some kind of orchid?

Nope.

i went to my favourite spot for photography today... an old abandoned army base (currently being torn down oh noes!). and i found some interesting things to photograph.

the last one was hardest to do as i had to hold the camera against the ground pointed upwards to get the silhouette. therefore i could not see what i was photographing at all, so it took about 50 shots to get 7 decent ones.

Actually, I'm not sure what it is (lol), I know it's some type of yellow and white flower. You can see another one further off in the background...

garbage.

lol specifically it is the printed plastic that is shrink-wrapped over flats of water bottles. it was lying in the woods along with some other trash since winter or something. it is dirty with mud, hence the brown splotches. i photographed it upwards so the sun is shining through it.

Laz and Tequila - I absolutely love your photos! They appear to be taken in the UK, yes? Regardless of whether they are or not, those places are so beautiful that I would like to visit them someday.

The Ribble Valley is one of the most beautiful, and overlooked, parts of England. I live in the local government district but the countryside starts just outside town.

In summer it is, to all intents and purposes, a free day out. :)

Some more photos coming up soon.

Last one from the Forest of Bowland:

And then we drove over to Scorton, which is near enough adjacent to the Forest of Bowland. Alas, my cousin committed suicide on the train tracks just outside the village a few years ago.

The village has a shop, post office, pub, church, plant centre/gift shop, hotel. It is touristville in many ways, but quietly so and not showy.

So this is a photo of the main tourist shop here getting geared up for the Royal Wedding with its Union Jacks. Seeing the national flag in anything other than specified times and on official buildings is discouraged up here - the establishment feel threatened by instances of non-officially sanctioned patriotism.

Only one picture from here though:

Image

…OK, I lied. Perhaps another taken from the same shop, I think, with the sign in British national colours:

I then crossed the road and had a pint in the pub in the village:

Then we set off down the A6 toward Barton Grange, which is a huge multipurpose store for everything garden related. Also sells home and cooking-related stuff and has a farm and sweet shop.

Just the one photo here:

…and then we left for home.
