I was standing with a policeman watching a postal worker taking mail out of the postal service mailbox. Four people were next to the postal worker. They were critiquing the letter carrier while he did his job. The policeman said "They are always doing that" or "Why do they do that?".

Mailman
To see a mailman in your dream symbolizes your communications with others. You need to get the word out about something. If the mailman does not have any mail for you, then it signifies disappointments in some aspect of your life.
Police
To see the police in your dream symbolizes structure, rules, power, authority and control. It also indicates that you are rejecting certain rules. The dream may also be a metaphor that you are feeling apprehensive about something.

Thank you, auntblabby. That helps a lot!

In my dream last night, I was apparently stranded on some tropical island, surrounded by the sea. I was not alone though - maybe a group of survivors? I also think I was a man in the dream. We did stuff like drinking coconuts, building rudimentary huts... later there was also some kind of building that we looted. The time then jumped ahead and I had a family and the community had grown, so basically it was an entire village on the islands.

I had another one of my many flying dreams. They're always in the same kind Arthur Dent Hitchhiking sort of fashion where I'm not paying attention and then I take off at some strange angle, usually not head first. This time I was in the grocery store in my home town and I ended up hugging the ceiling quite often. I remember one I had a few months ago, I was outside in that one and I flew higher than the really tall metal wired towers.

mebbe in the future it will take place with you. do you consider yourself amenable to autosuggestion? like say a mantra each night before retiring indicating that tonight you will go to heaven in your dream?

Unfortunately no, I have tried before to "seed" my mind before sleep but it never works. I also can't be hypnotized.

When I was a little boy I frequently used to dream that I could fly, especially after watching Peter Pan or some other superhero programme. I fell in love with this 1972 track later in my childhood...

I've never flown in any "heaven" dreams. It seems every time I've visited loved ones there, they always meet me at a "train station". (I'm the one stepping out of the car onto the platform in each dream). Maybe it's the Hogwart Express?

I often have flying dreams, especially since I've wanted to fly ever since I was a baby.
