Tainos (who lived in Jamaica around the time of Columbus) used to flatten their foreheads as a sign of beauty.

Taino words used in the English language today include
- tobacco
- hurricane
- hammock
- canoe
- barbecue

Ancient Mayans used to play a 'football' where they tried to get a small ball through a hoop about 23 feet above the ground.

The only Spanish word that ends with a 'j' is reloj.

In Feudal times, the feudal lord had the right of the first night with a new bride.
