is that from a childrens book?

I shot up an old 1/4" thick steel plate today with my .44 Magnum rifle [at 100 meters]. I wanted to see if it'd make it through. .22LR just splats against it, .22 WMR digs in a small amount, and 6.5x52mm zipps right on through (which is what I expected with the 6.5mm). I was unsure how the .44 Magnum would do; you hear of stories about how it can "crack an engine block" when fired from a revolver, and since the velocity is higher with the rifle, I thought it'd have a good chance (unsure though). It's heavier than the 6.5mm (240 grain compared to 140), but a bit slower (1800 feet per second compared to 2400).

It made it through well enough; also through a 15 liter bottle full of water and it bounced off the backstop. I recovered the core of projectile (plus a big piece of the jacket). I did it a couple of more times with the same result (no water though). The projectiles from the two shots without the bottle were boiling hot.

Pretty decent.

It is the sound of unseen machinery turning, toiling to produce that which is needed. None know from where the machines came or how they function, for all that can be known is their general process and similarities. It is the sound of what happens in the unseen world, too fine for eyes. It is the sound of life.

oh. that's a shame.

And how is that a shame? Someone could make a children's book about translation.

At this point, it's a negative because I've never had them before and I think pickles should NOT be fried. But who knows, maybe it's actually pretty good.

Translation, as in protein synthesis translation?
