Three hours in a car for a day is enough for most people, I would wager. People wouldn't drive into much of London anyway - traffic in London and other major cities is nightmarish.

I'm not saying this goes for all Europeans - many people would think nothing of travelling a few hours - but for most people it's just not done. It also depends on the road networks, speed limits, traffic and so on.

Where do you want to go in Europe? The Continent is often not especially cheap and in a lot of Europe it ranges anywhere from pricey to bank-loan-for-beer expensive.

If you just want something easy, the British Isles would be a good first stop.


I'm not quite sure. My paternal grandparents (early 60s) have been traveling all around Europe for three or so decades. They have slowed down a bit, though, due to aging and such. I would like to go to the UK (easy because I know English), Germany, and the German part of Switzerland (ich spreche deutsch auch.) My aunt was wondering if I wanted to go during spring break, but that's kind of short notice. D: Maybe over the summer.

Firstly, Switzerland is nightmarishly expensive. A cheap (two-star!) hotel room will cost you $160 a night without breakfast. The same hotel room in Britain might cost $45 if you hunt around. I want to go there myself but I simply don't have the money to stay in the country. I think the best thing would actually be to stay in a neighbouring country with good transport links.

Don't forget Ireland too - they speak English there also. And Malta's an interesting place where English is one of two official languages.

I was going to go to Japan this next winter, but my friend said next summer would be better... I kind of want to go to Europe before that though. lol

I should mention though that Europe is a very, very big place. The most frequent and serious mistake people not from the continent make is trying to pack far, far, far too much in during their time there. Slow down - do bits of Europe piece by piece. There is an awful lot to see here.

My internet is so slow right now.

I like the new TESCO close to where I live.

I want a tuna sandwich.

Congo is a brilliantly crappy film.

I really should take my Ipod absolutely everywhere I go.

I have a lunch consisting of a tuna crunch sandwich, oreos and a chocolate fudge brownie milkshake for my visit to the zoo tomorrow.

I can hear a mother yelling at her kid in the distance. I live close to that short cut to Stepping Stones were an autistic child lives. I wonder if it's that house.
