Are you sure you understood me? The cask version was originally 5.2% but is now 4.5%. The bottled version is at the original strength at 5.2%.

That's as maybe, but an artisan knows when the tools aren't up to standard. 8)

Yes I do, I wasn't in Hobgoblin mood & anyway a 5.2% ale vs a 8% ale, the 8% wins hands down

I agree with your dad, and yeah, if Ansel Adams wielded a Holga he'd produce better photographs than anything I can make. But I'd still say Ansel Adams knew a good lens when he saw it, and sought out those tools that best complimented his craft. If you feel it's time to upgrade your camera, see it as a good sign.

(Yeah, I just got a new camera... I've been practicing justifying it to myself for weeks.)

thanks for that. i managed to still get some okay pictures still, but i think an upgrade is in order.

i have a few older SLR cameras that i inherited (Canon from the 1970s, Kodak and Exakta from the 1940s or 1950s), but i don't have the patience for using film anymore.

 Yep. I just can't let my early 80's trusty Pentax ME Super and K-mount lenses go.
It's all practically worthless and I doubt I'll ever use it again - but it's just such a beautiful piece of kit.

And as for film...
I used to develop my own transparencies (Ektachrome, the E6 process) and I really can't imagine ever feeling the urge to juggle chemicals and ridiculously accurate temperatures around now - plus, it's been discontinued anyway.

Well, yes. But I wouldn't always necessarily go for the stronger beer, mainly because that, in British supermarkets the stronger ales tend to be Chrismas-cakey type affairs rather than true IPAs, strong stouts et al.

The last two photos from Esholt.

This is the pub that was originally used for the local pub in Emmerdale Farm (later Emmerdale) until filming moved to a purpose-built set in Leeds in 1996. It would otherwise be an unremarkable village pub if it weren't for that association. Had a pint of Black Sheep here. Tasted OK but a bit cloudy.

The village main street.

I'm not especially happy with the daylight performance of the S95. The colours look all wrong to me.

Took some more photos though that I will put up in due course. :)

Tesco's don't sell shite ale, so ok la & anyway Odbins wasn't open the time of day I was out yesterday cos I had to get back home to wait for my bloody CPN to show up & she never did the cow. What's wrong with strong ale can't you hold yours?

My never-ending complaint about British beer is that it isn't strong and diverse enough, ironically.

I just don't want to be lumped with a style of beer I don't like simply because it's strong.

An 8% coffeeish imperial stout? Excellent. An 8% double IPA? Excellent! An 8% very sweet Christmas cake type beer? No thanks.

Am I complaining about the strength of British beer, am I hell I did talk about a few strong British beers in my pass posts plus you know that I also have tastes for European beers to (excluding Italian beer which imo is fizzy piss, the worst of them is Peroni Nastro Azzurro I'll drink my own wee before drinking that ever again)

That's not what I meant. I meant that the strength of the beer is immaterial to me, although I prefer a beer with punch in it. I wouldn't want to go over 6% though for an average session.

That said, I like beers much stronger than that too. I just can't drink 10% beer all night. ;)

I have two types of an tasting session where pace myself & set a limit before hand.
There anesthetic session where I do it for an emotional reason with no limits I quit when I feel like crap.
This week sorry to say are anethetic sessions.

I GOT A NEW CAMERA FOR MY BIRTHDAY!! !! !!

i got an olympus pen e-pl1, and i will be getting a macro lens for it later today.

Image

beerwise, yesterday i had the Hobgoblin, which was quite nice. dark and sweet and rich and it left me wanting more.

today i am drinking Samuel Smith's India Pale Ale, which is quite smooth, but not as bitter as i had hoped.

tomorrow... i will try the Old Empire.

cdfox7 suggested a beer thread, which i think is a wicked idea! i am not very knowledgeable about beers, so i would not start a thread like that.
