Dogs were fine yesterday :) They cried again when we left but a little howling is not too bad as long as they settle down after a bit.....

I have watched a few dog trainer programmes in the past and remember these suggestions:
1] Keep a tv or radio on while you are out

2] Use a treat ball - http://www.vetuk.co.uk/dog-training-aid ... als-p-2944

3] Use a pheremone diffuser - http://www.doggiesolutions.co.uk/d-a-p- ... 497-0.html

Also I think you are best building up the time you are absent, start by going out for 5 mins, then make it 10 mins then they accept that you do come back eventually and spoil them.

I've read sooooo much material on Seperation Anxiety. I've practiced gradual departures, I've left the TV on for them, I've given treat balls and kongs, I've even tried kennel training... the only thing I haven't tried is the pheremones. Might be worth a shot.

Interestingly, I am thinking that the treats and kongs may have upset them more than it helped because it gets them all riled up and I think they tend to fight amongst eachother over the treats even though they are each given their own. We've had more sucess lately by quitely waiting for them to settle down and then leaving without a fuss or a hubbub. They just kind of lift their heads from the couch and watch us leave and presumably go back to sleeping. It has worked pretty well so far but my concern is that it will ramp up like it did last summer because they were fine at first and it was after about a month of being left every day that they (well, he actually - theres only one that does damage) started getting very upset. They started howling again this week, far as I know we had avoided that up until now.. so it may be building again. Medication or pheremones might be something to try now before it gets out of hand.

I need to start looking around for some of my missing games.

I have a feeling that there's one in the china cabinet... but I don't remember which one.
