Don't even waste your thoughts on Vista or Windows 7 - they are bad enough to make you long for the universally hated and dependably unstable Windows Millenium (ME).

Wipe away every trace of your OS and then do a clean install of reliable old XP - you'll be glad you did.

Vista works best with the power turned off.

I've been using Windows 7 for a few weeks now, and it's much, much better in terms of stability, speed, and reliability than Vista was. I 'downgraded' from Vista to XP Pro when I got my new laptop in 2007 because the performance was unsuitable.

I kept my XP Pro partition just in case I didn't like Windows 7, but I've rarely booted XP... unless it's to play a game that I'm too lazy to re-install on the new partition.

I never do the upgrade option with Windows... always do a backup, disk format and clean install.

My netbook, on the other hand, is still using Ubuntu 9.10.

Indeed, thanks for the tip with the partion. I've never really thought of it, having 2 operating systems on the same hard drive :D Thats rather cool I think :D But won't it affect your computer in performance wise?

you know, all these people ripping in Windows, you'd think everyone in the world would go Mac

Unless...

there's something about a PC that people like.

The whole PC vs. Mac crap is far worse than the cola wars or Star Trek vs. Star Wars. Maybe even East vs. West in the cold war.

Speaking for myself, it's more a matter of prefer than like, and the thing prefered is the price/cost relative to a Mac. No idea what they are like to own and operate, but it stands to reason that one would not pay for a Mac rather than a PC unless they liked the Mac more than a PC, whereas many people who do not prefer a PC or would actually prefer a Mac if all things were equal (particularly price) will not or cannot pay the extra for a Mac.

By default anyone who does not want to pay more for a computer than they have to (to get the specs they want) will end up with a PC regardless of their OS preferences. As Windows is the most common pre-loaded OS on PCs, it would actually be odd if it were not complained about more than the Mac OS system, because Windows users are usually incidental, but Mac (and the Mac OS) users have usually deliberately chosen a Mac/Mac OS over a PC or Windows.

To be totally honest, I think HP compaq laptops are the only laptops I think are normally stable and the performance is good to excellent and my one would fit around excellent...

Some of them that has been released before windows 7, apparently are eligable for an upgrade and my one does :D yaaay, but my OS has been preinstalled and it's vista.

How would I reinstall it again incase I do ever get fed up of windows 7?

No, there's not a real performance loss. You just have a boot loader that displays when you turn the machine on. You choose which OS to boot or it will time out in 15-30 seconds (I forget which) and choose the default option.

Obviously, you'll lose disk space.
