Either asteroid strike (which could end life, but not the planet) or the sun going hot and turning into a red giant (which will destroy) the planet.

The irony about the climate change furore being that regardless of the cause or extent of current climate change, sooner or later we as a species will have to cope with massive changes in climate, shoreline and ecology across the entire globe; over the timeline of (most) species the world is in constant flux. Our political institutions assume that the Earth is a static map carved up into permanent territorial nation states, but that isn't so for the medium and long term.

Agreed. Especially in the country I live in, why are we still existing? Should Singapore has a dual-citizenship scheme with Australia in case we get flooded? Lol

Well Singapore has been sinking for sometime and there's not much anybody can do about it. Pipes and cables are being severed because of drops of as much as 50cm a year.

If the asteroids dont get you the supervolcanoes do.

Actually humanity may not be much threatened by asteroids.

Any approaching asteroid could be intercepted by rockets baring H-bombs that would deflect it or even destroy it before it hit earth.

Further- in the near future we will start to strip mine asteroids for metal ores and other resources- even for oxogen for space colonies.

A centurey from now folks will be in despair because "we didnt conserve our near-eath asteroids when we had the chance- now theyve all been turned into beer cans!"

Supervolcanoes are another story. I cant even imagine how even a future civilization could stop Yellowstone from turning north america into toast when it happens.

But I think the world will end when Earths two most agressive life forms finally confront each other for mastery of the planet: banyan trees, and aspen trees!

Aspen trees send up trunks from their roots. There are whole 'forests" of aspen in colorado that are really one single aspen tree that covers hundreds of acres.

Banyan trees (aka 'strangler figs') do almost the opposite- they send down trunks from their branches and strangle vicitm trees that they latch onto for support.

The temperate and sub-arctic zones will be conquered by aspen trees, and the tropics will be conquered by the banyan trees. Then the two species will confront each other with their mirror-image survival strategies. The result will be a slow motion smack-down the likes of which the world has never before seen- and may not survive!

What you're saying is true.

Now I hope the home I stay in will stay intact for 50 years. If I were born elsewhere, I need not think of this.

Sigh, such is life in Singapore --- full of worries for our future.

Our planet is going to be destroyed by aliens to make room for an intergalactic superhighway.

The dolphins realize this, why don't we?

Not concerned about how it will end. It may never end.

The world will end when the sun burns it up.

Humans will mot be around to see that though.

So how do Humans die? When does OUR WORLD END?

It could be any number of scenarios previosly mentioned although humans methane is not a likely cause, even if we all farted at once. many of them will inevitably happen in time. The real question is, When will our world end? Some are saying 2012.

(Coincadentally The Nostradamus effect just came on on my TV while I was writing this)

I think that its clear that we have caused Global warming, and it is going to push our environment out of a human life sustaining climate. But this won't matter one iota if our world is destroyed in 2012.

Im not sure if this 2012 date will be our end, but if it is, I suggest this;

Go buy a Big 4x4 American Diesel Truck. Because It will keep you alive in a collision so you can live right up until the end.

They tell us that cars are the safest that they have ever been. Thank's to Unibody construction (Frame less) and high speed airbags. But I have seen these unibody coffins in the wrecking yards
and when the crumple zone comes for you... well have you ever cut your finger on a tin can...now imagine your in the tin can when a giant crushes it with a spiked bat. And what's an airbag on your steering wheel worth, when the steering wheel has pushed through your chest.

Get Big Trucks and live cause each of our worlds will end in our own ways. Don't rush the inevitable because you had to save a few bucks on gas.

The world, in my own guess, will probably never end in my lifetime!
