I am a die-hard evolutionist. I also have an obsession with evolutionary theory that is like a sub-obsession from my ape one.
I can not see why any of the creation stories told in religions would make any sense, so some supernatural being that just so happened to look like a human when they haven't been "made" yet decided to just make a world because they felt like it and wanted their creations to worship them because they love themselves so much... riiiiiiight.

We already do. Because technically we are in the "hominidae" family which is the great ape family.

No. We're all pretty much equally close to being apes.. I'm of european descent and i consider myself an ape :)
We're still different from other apes, just like all ape species are from eachother, because we are our own species afterall. Humans, Chimpanzees, Gorillas, Orangutans, and Bonobos are all obviously different from eachother, yet we all came from the same ancestors and therefore share a lot in common. I think the "ape rights" thing makes a lot of sense, actually. They aren't the same as humans, because they are still different species, but we should show some amount of respect to our fellow apes because, whether we like it or not, they are family :D Plus they do have a lot of the same mental abilities, just not to the same degree as your average human. But, i think we can agree that people with less intelligence are still entitled to rights, so why not our ape family? Koko the gorilla scored higher than some humans on an IQ test.

Yeah. But most people won't go as far as use the word "ape" to describe humans. It's always "humans and apes"... why not just "apes."

Yeah. That always made God sound like a real narcissistic jerk to me. Why would i worship someone who created me and them demands that i worship them? No thanks, doesn't seem like i'd like them very much.

I know what you mean now. Yeah I tend to refer to other apes as "non human apes" instead of making them completely separate. I think the whole separation thing is due to humanity's superiority complex and the whole "we're better than the rest of world" mentality that is obviously a side effect of being the most highly evolved (so far).
And for some reason I always feel weird about calling non human apes wild animals because they seem too people-ish, but I can't quite call them people either, I'm always in a dilemma about what to call them.

So would you be offended by the idea that some people hunt monkeys to eat? Yes, some cultures eat monkeys.

But they are advanced in some ways than 4 year old humans, well the 2 pan species are anyway.
And I agree with the ape rights thing, I think that killing non human apes like in the bushmeat trade and torturing them should have the same punishments and sentences as killing/torturing people have. I think anyone that goes out to Africa and poaches a gorilla should have a full court trial and everything.

I know you weren't asking me, but I'll put my two penneth in anyway.
Because monkeys are much further away genetically so there are less tabboos about eating them. Chimps eat monkeys and you don't see them iffing and arring about the ethics of it (mostly coz they can't talk but that's a whole different kettle of fish :P)

So I'm sure that even athiests are thankful for things they have in life and they appreciate the things they have, especially if they are basic neccessities (food, water...).

Now, lets just ASSUME that you believe in God and that He is the Creator of the universe. Wouldn't you want to thank God for all the things that are provided to you and worship Him because he is the ultimate source of everything? Like if your parents provide and take care of you, you appreciate them for it. You wouldn't go as far to worship your parents, but God is the ultimate provider and you owe Him some respect and revere Him.
And in the case of Christianity, Christians want to worship God for providing not only earthly things but eternal salvation.

I hope this helps you understand the perspective of people who worship God.

Yes I know, the bushmeat trade. They kill the apes just so posh snobs with s**t loads of money can get a taste of "exotic meat". And I think it's disgusting myself, 1 because in my opinion it's like cannibalism and 2 because a lot of apes are only in small populations and we can't afford to lower their numbers any more.

Read your bible.
Noah's Ark should be enough in itself to elucidate it's contradictory.

What exactly has god provided?
Sickle Cell Anemia and Cluster headaches (suicide headaches)? Kittens? Puppies? Brains capable of enjoying the suffering of other living things?

Christian's worship because they have no choice, on the requirement to reach heaven. They will burn for an eternity in hell for merely not believing, which could mean they were one of the kindest and more loving people ever to exist and still be tortured by god for all eternity.
